About

I have been working with my hands for a long time. Some of that work had a shop name on the paycheck. A lot of it did not. The habit is the same either way: look at the problem, figure out what it needs, and finish clean.

That has included remodeling houses with a small team, turning wrenches at Pep Boys in Leesburg, running a massage practice, and co-owning Therapy Touch for four years. Since 2021 I have also been a full-time family caregiver under Florida’s NICA program. In between I keep taking the jobs that show up — paint, floors, a fixture, an appliance, a car that will not start, a church keyboard that lost its sound.

Hands-on work

The two houses below are the easiest way to show the scale of it. Stell Drive was a gut. Fairway was smaller, then we closed in the porch and added rooms. I still do the quieter repair work around those projects. The photos are ones I took for the listing agent.

New Port Richey remodel — Stell Drive · 2014–2016

Whole-house renovation in Pasco County. I was the owner-builder and led a small team. Pasco County treated the work as changing the house’s effective age.

  • Drew the electrical and plumbing rough-in plans, approved by an engineer and Pasco County
  • Licensed subcontractors did the rough-in, including the panel work
  • Did my own inspections at each stage and scheduled the county inspections
  • Replaced a gable roof with a hip roof and redid the stucco
  • Raised the foundation in the primary bedroom
  • All the finish work: drywall, paint, flooring, kitchen and bath cabinets, counters, and fixtures
  • Finish plumbing in the kitchen and laundry; installed an Eemax tankless water heater after the rough-in
  • Closet doors and shelving; aluminum windows replaced with vinyl
  • Backyard sump pump to keep the laundry room dry in hurricane season

Leesburg remodel — Fairway Circle · 2020–2021

Fairway was simpler. Paint, floors, countertops. Then we enclosed the back porch on a raised wood platform — concrete like Stell would have cost too much — and built a family room and a bathroom. Those are the rooms with the sliding barn doors.

Pep Boys — Leesburg · 2020–2022

General Service Technician (GST). Not ASE certified.

Oil, tires, inspections, and basic service in a busy shop. I also straightened out the inventory. I do not have ASE or EPA papers, and I am not going to list this as something it was not.

Live sound, early

When I was a teenager I worked for The Music Store in Boca Raton. We loaded trucks before dawn and set sound, lights, and staging for outdoor shows from Boca down to Fort Lauderdale. I was the only roadie on a regular schedule, and I also worked 12 hours a week on the sales floor.

Family Caregiver — Florida NICA Program · Nov 2021–present · St. Cloud

Full-time skilled caregiving for a family member with complex medical needs. I coordinate care across hospital departments and specialists and keep accurate daily care records. I kept doing hands-on repair and remodel work throughout.

General Service Technician — Pep Boys · Sep 2020–Apr 2022 · Leesburg

Oil changes, tire service, inspections, and basic maintenance in a high-volume shop. Reorganized the shop inventory for clearer stocking and faster pulls.

Owner-Builder / Remodeler — Personal residential projects · 2008–2021

Mount Dora condo (2008), New Port Richey (2014–2016), and Leesburg (2020–2021). All three were sold. Drywall, paint, flooring, cabinets, counters, fixtures, finish plumbing, and appliance installs.

Licensed Massage Therapist — Self-employed · 2010–present

One-on-one client care, scheduling, and intake records for repeat clients.

Co-Owner — Therapy Touch Massage · Jan 2010–Jan 2014 · Leesburg

Co-owned the spa with my wife. I handled hiring, decorating and the build-out, code compliance (an ADA build-out that passed the health inspection for the Florida massage establishment license), customer service, and marketing. My wife ran scheduling, with a receptionist, and the accounting.

Overnight Shift Supervisor — Whataburger

The only manager on site overnight, running the restaurant and the crew.

Alternate Shift Supervisor / Team Member — Chick-fil-A

Dining room, cashier, and kitchen roles, plus stints as alternate shift supervisor.

Deckhand — American Cruise Lines

Deck duties aboard an Intracoastal Waterway cruise ship running between Jacksonville and Charleston, with stops including Savannah, Beaufort, and Hilton Head Island.

Cashier & Store Remodel Team — Winn-Dixie · Yulee

Cashier between remodel assignments. On the remodel team I removed old shelving, installed new shelving, and built displays from corporate plans.

Sound, Lighting & Stage Construction / Sales Floor — The Music Store · ~1999–2001 · Boca Raton

Played lead guitar and sang in a touring Christian music group, and helped load, set up, and tear down gear.

Caregiving

NICA · 2021–present

Full-time family caregiver under Florida’s Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Association. NICA pays for the skilled care a family would otherwise have to hire an RN or LPN to do.

Cybersecurity coursework

UCF boot camp 2024–2025 · ISC2 CC

The UCF boot camp ran from network setup through web-app security. ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity, credential 2377032, issued January 2025. I treat it as useful training, not a claim that I have been sitting in a SOC.

Missions, music, school

I went to Tegucigalpa once after a hurricane, with Pastor José Ortega. We treated children for lice, helped rebuild homes that the storm had torn up, and worked on a school outside of town. I was in Chile twice with Pastor Rick Wilkes, on a preaching tour from Santiago down to Chiloé. Separately, I spent about two months in China on a cultural exchange: a few days in Hong Kong, then Nanning, Guangxi, where I helped local people practice conversational English at a coffee house.

I play guitar by ear and sing — blues, jazz, rock, and Spanish — and I sing tenor in an Orthodox church choir. A.S. in Psychology from Lake-Sumter State College, 2019–2021.
